Pressure is mounting on Belgian authorities after concerns emerged over the possible use of a Belgian airport in the transfer of shipments reportedly destined for Israel during the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza. Human rights advocates have called for an urgent investigation into whether military-related goods passed through Belgian territory in breach of international obligations.
The complaint argues that European governments and private logistics firms cannot ignore their responsibilities while Palestinians in Gaza continue to face mass destruction, displacement and mounting civilian deaths. Campaigners insist that stronger oversight mechanisms are needed to ensure that no infrastructure within Europe is being used to facilitate the flow of weapons or equipment connected to the genocidal war.
Amnesty International’s Belgian branch stated that corporations operating within the country must remain fully accountable under domestic and international law, regardless of their global influence. The organisation stressed that companies involved in international shipping and logistics should not be shielded from scrutiny when allegations concern possible links to military transfers.
The case has intensified wider debate across Europe over the role of governments and multinational businesses during Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Rights advocates argue that political statements alone are no longer sufficient, urging concrete legal and economic measures to prevent any contribution to what they describe as genocide, unlawful occupation and systemic oppression imposed on Palestinians.
The organisation also warned against placing commercial interests above human rights obligations, saying economic profit cannot justify activities that may contribute to further suffering in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. It added that Belgian authorities are expected to clarify whether any national or international regulations were violated.
