The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ratified 14 agreements with the people of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, which were signed with the former Jordanian Ministry of Construction and Development, to support the stabilization of the neighborhood's rights to their lands and properties.

The ministry said in a statement that it had handed its Palestinian counterpart, the neighborhood residents and their lawyer an agreement indicating that "the Ministry of Construction and Development has entered into an agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) to construct 28 housing units in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood."

It stated that the Jordanian Ministry of Construction and Development concluded individual agreements with the people to establish housing for them in the neighborhood, adding that it pledged under the agreements that ownership of housing units would be registered in the names of the neighborhood's residents, but as a result of the 1967 war, the process of authorizing and registering ownership was not completed.

According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Daifallah Al-Fayez, "the documents were handed within the framework of the Kingdom's keenness to provide all attribution to the people of the neighborhood, in a way that protect their rights."

Al-Fayez affirmed the kingdom's condemnation and rejection of Israel's illegal and inhuman attempts to expel the Palestinians from their homes and lands and violate their rights.

Last week, Jordan handed over to the Palestinian Authority documents, historical correspondence and lease contracts for housing units belonging to the people of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

This comes in light of the occupation’s attempts to expel the neighborhood’s residents from their homes and allow settlers to take possession of them.

The occupation forces have given some families of the neighborhood until next Sunday to evacuate them from their homes in favor of extremist settlement associations.

Human rights organizations said that the decisions to evacuate the homes of Palestinians in the neighborhood come within a scheme to Judaize Jerusalem, in addition to demolishing homes, confiscating lands, and others.

It is noteworthy that the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood case began in 1972 when settler organizations tried to claim ownership of the neighborhood, and the first three families were evacuated from the neighborhood in 2008-2009.
