Palestine Center: Israeli occupation deprives hundreds of Palestinian children of their right to study

Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies confirmed that the Israeli occupation deprives hundreds of Palestinian children of starting their new school year as they are either in occupation prisons or under house arrest.

“With the beginning of the new school year, those students must be on their seats yet they will not be able go join just like their friends as the Israeli occupation arrets them in harsh conditions. Most of them are sentenced to long years in prison,” the center said.

The Head of the Palestine Center Riyad Al-Ashqar noted that, at least, 55 students cannot start their school years as they are under house arrest, which prevents the children from moving outside their houses.

He informed that the house arrest is keeping the child in house by force after being released by the occupation authorities. The family signs a promise that their son is not allowed to go to school, meet his relatives or play with his friends in the neighborhood. Hence, the safe house turns into a prison.

He noted that the sanction of the house arrest targets the Jerusalemite children in particular.

“They replace detention with house arrest for Children who are under legal age,” he commented.

He confirmed that this kind of arrests has negative indications on the child in which he becomes aggressive and nervous all the time, as he sees his friends and neighbors playing in the streets.

He accused the Israeli occupation of killing the future of Palestinian children who spend years in prisons, face torture and repression and live in harsh conditions of detention.

He also called on the international community to act and force the occupation to stop targeting Palestinian children by detention, repression, and house arrest.
