JSC condemns Israeli detention of seven Palestinian journalists

Journalist Support Committee (JSC) strongly condemned the Israeli occupation detention and beating of seven Palestinian journalists yesterday during their field coverage of the peaceful protest in the Masafer Yatta area threatened by settlement in the city of Hebron in the south of the occupied West Bank.

The committee confirmed in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, that the Israeli army intercepted them during their coverage in the Masafer Yatta area, beat them, confiscated their equipment, and took them to the police station in Kiryat Arba settlement, south of Hebron.

It added that the assault and confiscation of journalists' equipment and restrictions on their work is an Israeli crime that contradicts all international laws and covenants that guarantee freedom of movement and coverage for press crews.

It called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Union of Arab Journalists, and all international institutions concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to stand up to their responsibilities to stop the occupation repeated attacks against press crews in the West Bank, Gaza, and occupied Jerusalem.
