Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, has revealed that last night was particularly horrifying, as the Israeli occupation launched three explosive drones that struck dangerously close to the hospital, destroying patient rooms. He remarked, “Sadly, this has now become part of our daily reality.”
Dr. Abu Safia elaborated, explaining, “In addition to the ongoing artillery shelling and airstrikes, approximately five bombs were dropped on the hospital’s generator unit and oxygen supply network, causing even further damage.”
He continued, “A repair team from the Ministry of Health arrived today and managed to transfer six critical patients. Moreover, the World Health Organization delivered a small amount of fuel, medical supplies, and food coupons. However, the Indonesian delegation that had planned to stay at Kamal Adwan Hospital was unfortunately turned away.”
Despite the immense challenges, Safia highlighted that the medical team managed to evacuate six patients in critical condition who required immediate surgical intervention. “Currently, around 60 injured individuals remain in the hospital, the majority of whom also require urgent surgery,” he stated.
“The Ministry of Health team is expected to return tomorrow to help transfer more cases, as Kamal Adwan Hospital lacks the necessary surgical expertise. The supplies we’ve received so far are extremely limited, but in this dire situation, any assistance is better than none,” he added.
Dr. Safia made an urgent plea for international intervention to protect Palestinian healthcare facilities, their staff, and patients from the Israeli bombardment, which is now dangerously close to Kamal Adwan Hospital. “We are facing not only airstrikes but also drone attacks that have damaged our water, oxygen, and electricity systems,” he said.
The situation at Kamal Adwan remains critical, with medical teams working under constant threat. “Our staff is operating in constant fear, surrounded by the terrifying sounds of bombs and explosions, all while trying to deliver care in these inhumane conditions,” Safia explained.
Dr. Safia concluded with a desperate appeal: “We hope that after more than 70 days of Israeli genocide and attacks on our healthcare system in northern Gaza, our calls will finally be heard. The international community must act to protect our people and our healthcare system from complete destruction.”
