Bleeding and Barefoot: The Forced Evacuation of Patients in Gaza

In the early hours of Tuesday, the Israeli occupation army forcibly evacuated patients and injured individuals from the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip. This act occurred amidst intense artillery and aerial bombardment in the vicinity of the hospital, part of the escalating assault on healthcare facilities in northern Gaza.

Reports from local media revealed the harrowing scenes of patients and wounded individuals being forced out of the hospital at gunpoint. Many walked barefoot and unaided along rough roads towards Gaza City, their injuries exacerbating the already unimaginable ordeal.

Journalist Mohammed Qreiqa described the chaos: “The wounded are fleeing with their injuries, barefoot on rough roads, not knowing where to go, after the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of the Indonesian Hospital.” The desperate exodus of the injured unfolded as Israeli military vehicles and aircraft continued to attack the surrounding area, putting dozens of lives at further risk.

The evacuation represents yet another chapter in the relentless assault on Gaza’s healthcare system, which has left medical facilities struggling to cope amid the violence. Such actions, targeting hospitals and patients, raise urgent questions about the protection of civilians and the upholding of international humanitarian law in conflict zones.
