US Secretary of State Blinken Reveals Post-War Gaza Plan
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken unveiled details of a post-war plan for Gaza, stating it would be handed over to Donald Trump’s administration.
Blinken emphasized that Gaza’s administration after the war should be led by the Palestinian Authority (PA), with temporary roles for the United Nations and other international parties.
“We believe the PA should invite international partners to help establish and oversee a temporary administration responsible for Gaza’s key civilian sectors,” Blinken said, disclosing the long-awaited plan as his tenure comes to an end.
The plan proposes Israel’s withdrawal and the establishment of a governance system in Gaza, with the PA playing a central role. It includes close cooperation with a senior UN official to oversee stabilization and recovery efforts in the territory.
A temporary security force, composed of partner nations and vetted Palestinian personnel, will also be established.
Blinken called on the Palestinian Authority to implement significant reforms and emphasized the need for unity between the West Bank and Gaza. He insisted that Israel must accept a unified Gaza and West Bank under a reformed Palestinian Authority.
The Secretary of State highlighted the importance of creating conditions for Palestinians and Israelis to live side by side in freedom and dignity.
Blinken also urged Israel to abandon the notion of annexing land “by default,” criticizing the rapid expansion of settlements and land annexations over the past decade.
Regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, Blinken confirmed that Hamas has accepted President Joe Biden’s proposals. Mediators are now working to finalize a prisoner exchange deal and make the ceasefire permanent.
He stressed that a Palestinian state governed by Hamas, which opposes the two-state solution, is unacceptable. Blinken accused Hamas of attempting to ignite a regional war and noted that the group has recruited nearly as many new fighters as it has lost in the conflict.
