Abla Sa’adat: Harsh Detention Conditions and Hope for Her Husband Ahmed Sa’adat’s Release

On January 19, 2025, the occupation forces released Abla Abdul Rasoul Sa’adat as part of a prisoner exchange deal involving 90 female prisoners and minors in exchange for three Israeli female detainees. Abla was arrested on September 17, 2024, from her home in Ramallah during a pre-dawn raid. She described her detention conditions as the harshest she had ever experienced, marked by cruel treatment and inhumane conditions.

Abla spent 12 days in solitary confinement in a small cell, deprived of basic rights such as bathing or communication with the outside world. She described the experience as a nightmare but found strength in her spirit of resistance and memories of her family. She also revealed the psychological pressure she faced, including threats to remove her name from the list of prisoners to be released

Abla is the wife of Ahmed Sa’adat, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who has been imprisoned for 18 years. She highlighted ongoing efforts to secure her husband's release in the next phase of prisoner exchange deals.

Abla expressed hope that Ahmed would return to Palestinian territories rather than be exiled, emphasizing that his return to his homeland is his rightful claim.

She also sent a message of solidarity to Palestinian prisoners, urging them to remain resilient and steadfast in their fight for freedom. Abla expressed her confidence that prisons would one day be emptied of detainees and called on prisoners to hold onto hope. She stressed that the struggle is far from over and that Palestinians will continue their resistance to achieve justice and freedom.

In her concluding remarks, Abla underscored the importance of international solidarity with Palestinian prisoners. She called on the global community to stand with the Palestinian people in their struggle against occupation, affirming that freedom is a fundamental right for all. She concluded by stating that the will of Palestinians is stronger than prisons and chains and that their struggle will persist until their rights are fully realized.
