Gaza is on the brink of a devastating famine as border closures and aid restrictions exacerbate an already dire humanitarian situation. The ongoing Israeli blockade, intensified since March 2, has halted the flow of essential food and medical supplies, leaving the enclave’s 2.4 million residents in a state of desperation. With Ramadan underway, the crisis has taken on an even more urgent dimension, as families struggle to secure basic sustenance.  

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that while its reserves can sustain Gaza’s bakeries and communal kitchens for a month, many have already shut down due to a critical lack of cooking gas. Over 1.1 million people are now reliant on dwindling food supplies, with no relief in sight. Salama Maarouf, head of the Gaza Government Media Office, condemned the blockade as a "new crime" and a continuation of the collective punishment policy that has crippled the region for years.  

The suspension of charitable kitchens, coupled with the inability to deliver aid, has heightened fears of a full-blown famine. Vulnerable groups, including children and the sick, are bearing the brunt of the crisis, with limited access to food, medicine, and basic services. The international community’s failure to enforce a ceasefire or lift the siege has only deepened the suffering, leaving Gaza’s population trapped in a cycle of deprivation and despair.  

As the world watches, the people of Gaza continue to endure unimaginable hardship, their calls for justice and relief echoing unanswered. The threat of famine looms large, a stark reminder of the human cost of prolonged conflict and blockade.
