The Palestinian Prisoners’ Center for Studies (PCBS) considered that the Israeli occupation continues to detain the disabled persons, as a disregard for the life of the Palestinian individual, and a clear violation of the most basic international norms that consider these people with special needs.

On the International Day of the Disabled People, which falls on the third of December of each year, the Center said in a report that reached SAFA, that the Israeli authorities are holding in its prisons 27 Palestinian prisoners who suffer from various forms of disability, whether physical or psychological.

The director of the center, researcher Riad Al-Ashqar, confirmed that the occupation did not hesitate to arrest citizens who suffer from various psychological and physical disabilities.

He stated that the Israeli authorities refuse either to enter medical devices assisting people with special needs through private institutions or human rights organizations, or to allow them to enter through the families. They also do not allow prisoners who are not sick in the "Ramla Prison Hospital" to support disabled prisoners to move, prepare food, take medicine, shower, etc. 

Al-Ashqar considered the medical negligence a reason for the injury of many prisoners with permanent or temporary disabilities, as the delay in the approved prison administration in conducting some surgeries for sick prisoners led to the amputation of limbs of their bodies, as happened with the prisoner Nahed al-Aqra, whose left foot was amputated as a result of severe infections .

He also referred to what happened with the 18-year-old boy, Jalal Sharawa, from Hebron, who had his left foot amputated after he was shot and neglected to treat him.

The Palestine Center called on international institutions for human rights to put pressure on Israel to release dozens of prisoners who suffer from various disabilities, until they complete their treatment abroad, before their psychological and physical condition deteriorates further.
