The Palestinian village of Duma, south of Nablus, has once again become the target of relentless settler violence, as Israeli settlers, backed by occupation forces, intensify their campaign to drive Palestinians from their land. In the latest attack, around 300 settlers stormed the village, injuring three residents and leaving a trail of destruction.
Settlers launched their assault on homes, farms, and vehicles, using live ammunition, rubber-coated bullets, and arson. According to Suleiman Dawabsheh, head of the Duma village council, the attack left a 35-year-old man shot in the foot, a 45-year-old man wounded in the eye and hand by bullet shrapnel, and a 17-year-old boy struck in the eye by a rubber bullet. Two livestock farms and three vehicles were set ablaze, forcing villagers to scramble for safety.
This attack is part of a larger campaign of forced displacement. Years ago, Duma witnessed one of the most horrific acts of settler violence—the firebombing of the Dawabsheh family home, which killed three family members, including an infant. Now, history repeats itself as settlers, emboldened by impunity and government backing, escalate their assaults to erase Palestinian presence.
Despite their fear and suffering, Duma’s residents remain steadfast in defending their land. Ghassan Daghlas, an official monitoring settlement expansion in the northern West Bank, has called for urgent protection, warning that without immediate action, Duma’s fate will mirror that of other villages emptied by settler terror. Human rights groups are also urging the international community to take concrete measures—beyond mere condemnation—to hold Israel accountable and curb the growing violence.
As night falls, Duma’s people brace for more attacks, their only defense being unity and resilience. But with time running out, they fear that without meaningful intervention, their homeland may soon be lost to the unchecked brutality of settler expansion.
