Gaza’s Children Face Death by Starvation as Israel Tightens Siege

The children of Gaza are facing death by starvation as Israel’s relentless blockade tightens its grip on the already shattered Strip. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, has decried what he called a "deliberate policy of starvation" imposed by the Israeli occupation, warning that Gaza is on the brink of an entirely preventable famine.

For nearly two months, Gaza’s border crossings have remained sealed, choking off vital supplies of food, medicine, and fuel. Humanitarian agencies, including the World Food Programme, have run out of food stocks, while bakeries have closed and families are left scavenging for anything they can burn to cook what little remains. With no relief allowed through, more than two million Palestinians are trapped, facing hunger, disease, and despair.

Children, who make up the majority of Gaza’s population, are bearing the heaviest burden. Over 60,000 are already suffering from severe acute malnutrition, their bodies wasting away before the world's eyes. Hospitals, stripped of resources and overwhelmed by the sick and starving, are powerless to save them.

Lazzarini's words are a chilling reminder: this is not a natural disaster but a calculated assault on human life. The international community, paralysed by political interests and muted condemnations, has so far failed to act, leaving Gaza’s children to pay the ultimate price for a crisis imposed upon them.

In the silence of global indifference, Gaza’s agony deepens. Every hour lost is another life stolen by a siege designed not just to punish, but to destroy a people’s future.
