A British human rights organisation has condemned Israel’s so-called “humanitarian bubbles” in Gaza as a calculated strategy of starvation and displacement, warning that they serve as a cover for deeper military and political objectives.
Mohamed Jamil, director of the Arab Organisation for Human Rights in Britain, stated that the Israeli occupation’s recent measures in Rafah represent a dangerous escalation in its collective punishment of Palestinians. Under the guise of humanitarian aid distribution, the creation of these tightly controlled zones is, according to Jamil, a thinly veiled attempt to manipulate civilians’ desperation for food and medicine while tightening Israel’s grip on Gaza.
Jamil described the situation as a humanitarian catastrophe, with essential aid deliberately withheld for months, leaving Gaza’s population to suffer amid relentless bombardment and an ever-tightening blockade. He warned that the expansion of Israeli operations could result in an unprecedented massacre and likened recent Israeli plans to what some Israeli voices have termed the “nuclear option.”
He further denounced the use of aid as leverage, calling it a gross violation of international law. The targeting of food access, the control of travel permits, and now the use of isolated aid zones, he said, all reflect a wider strategy to subjugate Palestinians and break their resistance through deprivation and control.
As famine looms and displacement accelerates, Jamil called on governments, particularly in the Arab and Islamic world, to act decisively. “We are witnessing a genocide through hunger and forced exile,” he said. “This is not a time for silence or neutrality. The path of dignity lies in standing against a regime that uses starvation as a weapon of war.”
