In a desperate attempt to keep treating the wounded, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has relocated parts of its burn and orthopaedic units from Khan Younis to Deir al-Balah. The decision comes as Israeli shelling intensifies around the Nasser Medical Complex, one of the last functioning hospitals in southern Gaza.
Medical teams, already overwhelmed by months of non-stop casualties, are now being forced to choose between treating patients and fleeing for their own survival. Nasser Hospital, described as a final refuge for thousands, remains under threat as fuel supplies dwindle and access is cut off.
The collapse is not limited to the south. In Gaza City, hospitals like Al-Shifa and the Arab Ahli are running out of fuel and could be shut down within hours. These facilities are among the few left standing after Israeli bombardments destroyed most of the Strip’s healthcare infrastructure. With no signs that Israel will allow the entry of fuel or vital supplies, health officials warn that the system is at breaking point.
Since March, Israel’s total blockade has not only starved Gaza of food and water, but has also paralysed emergency services. Doctors operate in darkness, patients lie untreated, and premature babies face death in powerless incubators. What remains of Gaza’s healthcare is being dismantled under fire, and the silence of the international community speaks louder than the screams of the wounded.
