For nearly five months, Jenin and its surrounding villages in the occupied West Bank have endured a relentless Israeli military campaign. What began as routine raids has now escalated into the full-scale militarisation of entire neighbourhoods, with dozens of Palestinian families forcibly displaced from their homes.
In recent days, residents in towns like Anin, Rummana, and Nazlat al-Sheikh Zaid have watched their houses turned into fortified Israeli positions. Families were given no choice but to leave, their lives upended overnight. The sound of gunfire, tear gas canisters, and the grinding presence of armoured vehicles has replaced the calm of daily life.
In Rummana, 11 homes now serve as Israeli military posts, while families crowd into relatives’ houses with no timeline for return. In Anin, five families, including children and elderly, were forced out as soldiers occupied their rooftops and living spaces. The takeover of these high-ground homes offers Israel a tactical view, but it comes at the price of entire communities being uprooted.
Residents speak of humiliation, raids at all hours, and youth detained without charge. A high school student was reportedly blindfolded and held for hours before being released. Shops are shuttered, roads are blocked, and fear hangs heavy in the air.
What is unfolding in Jenin is not just a military operation, it is a campaign of collective punishment. Homes are no longer sanctuaries; they are being turned into outposts of occupation. For the people of Jenin, the message is clear: nowhere is safe.
