In a tent woven with grief and hunger, Umm Mohammad Al-Za’anin sits with her seven daughters, her only son, Mohammad, taken by a bullet as he tried to bring home a bag of flour.
Displaced more than ten times, the family had reached the brink of famine. With no food or water for weeks, Mohammad joined a group of young men heading to one of the so-called “aid centres” to collect flour. But as they carried the bags, Israeli forces opened fire. Mohammad was shot in the chest, the bullet tearing through his back. He died instantly.
“He was our only hope,” Umm Mohammad told Snd News Agency. “He did everything he could to feed us. He dreamed of getting married after the war.”
Her daughter, Rimas, now wears her brother’s clothes to keep his memory alive. “At least he died trying to help us,” she says quietly. In Gaza, even the search for bread can cost a life.
