Israel’s war on Gaza continues to exact a horrifying toll on civilians, with deadly airstrikes striking shelters and residential buildings across the besieged Strip. In the latest wave of attacks, several Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in two separate bombings, another grim chapter in a war that has turned schools and homes into graveyards.
In central Gaza’s Bureij refugee camp, Israeli warplanes bombed Abu Halu School, where hundreds of displaced families had sought refuge from earlier fighting. Four civilians were killed and many others injured in the strike. What was meant to be a safe haven became another target, echoing the grim pattern of attacks on shelters across Gaza.
Meanwhile, in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighbourhood, a residential apartment near Imam Shafi’i School was hit, killing at least three people and injuring several more, some of them children. Local residents described scenes of panic and destruction as surrounding buildings were also damaged.
Since October 2023, over 58,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 140,000 injured in Israel’s military campaign. Despite mounting international outrage and repeated orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the aggression, the bombardment continues, flattening infrastructure, silencing communities, and pushing an already devastated population to the edge of survival.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has called Gaza’s situation “catastrophic,” lamenting the collective failure to halt the genocide. But words have done little to stop the bombs. As the world hesitates, Gaza’s civilians are left to endure the unbearable, unarmed, unheard, and unprotected.
