Families gathered in anguish at a hospital in central Gaza on Monday after a series of violent incidents left at least ten people dead and dozens wounded, several critically. The casualties followed a volatile sequence of internal confrontations and external bombardment in the vicinity of Al-Maghazi camp, an area already strained by mass displacement and deteriorating living conditions.
According to medical staff, the wounded were brought in from the eastern outskirts of the camp, where tensions had escalated earlier in the day. Local accounts describe armed groups attempting to detain individuals near a school sheltering displaced families, triggering resistance from residents and affiliated security elements. What began as a confrontation on the ground quickly spiralled, creating panic among civilians already living under extreme pressure from the ongoing genocidal war.
Witnesses reported that shortly after the clashes intensified, the area surrounding the school was struck from the air, compounding the chaos and significantly increasing the number of casualties. The sequence of events has made it difficult to establish a clear breakdown between those killed in the internal violence and those killed in the bombardment, but the cumulative impact on civilians has been severe.
The fragile ceasefire, in place since October, continues to erode amid repeated violations and mutual accusations. Health authorities in Gaza report that hundreds have been killed since its implementation, underscoring how little protection it has afforded to the population. For residents of central Gaza, Monday’s events reinforced a grim reality: even moments of supposed calm can collapse without warning, leaving civilians exposed to both internal fragmentation and relentless military pressure.
