Israeli occupation authorities force Palestinian family into tents in occupied Jerusalem

A 73-year-old Palestinian grandmother is living in two tents with her children and 30 grandchildren after Israeli occupation authorities demolished the family’s homes in the occupied East Jerusalem town of Issawiya.

Nahida Nasser said Israeli occupation bulldozers first demolished four homes built in the 1980s before later destroying temporary shelters the family had erected on their land.

The family now lives in harsh conditions on the rubble of their homes, facing shortages of water, electricity and basic services while refusing to leave the land.

Located in the “Rawabi al-Issawiya” area, the family’s land has become increasingly isolated by Israeli military infrastructure, including checkpoints, fences and a nearby military camp. Residents say movement restrictions have severely affected daily life, including access to schools and surrounding towns.

According to UN and rights groups, home demolitions and restrictions on Palestinian construction in occupied East Jerusalem are part of broader Israeli policies that violate international law and contribute to the forced displacement of Palestinians.

Despite repeated demolitions, Nahida said her family would remain on the land. “This is our land. We have nowhere else to go,” she said.
