Union of Agricultural Work Committees in Gaza recorded 320 Israeli violations against the fishers in 2020.

The Israeli soldiers used different ways to attack the fishers and intimidate them.

“They either fire guns, pump water towards them, confiscate their tools and vehicles, or close the way in front of them,” the union stated.

It warned of the notable increase in the number of attacks on the Gazan fishers in which 2020 recorded 63 attacks more than the previous year.

The union recorded 18 injuries; moderate and slight, and the arrest of 9 fishermen under brutal and humiliating conditions.

For their vehicles and tools, the union documented the destruction and vandalism of 12 boats, the boat jacking of other 4, and the theft and damaging of hundreds of fishing nets.

Regarding the sea area allowed for the fishers to reach to fish, the union pointed out that Israel keeps playing on the fishers either by opening the area allowed or closing it; expanding or reducing it.

The union of Agricultural Work Committees also documented 10 Israeli decision issued for this case, most notably closing the sea in front of the fishers for 16 consecutive days in the second part of August, 2020.
