EU Flags Israeli Violations Amid Gaza’s Deepening Catastrophe

The European Union has raised serious concerns over Israel’s conduct in Gaza, stating that evidence points to possible breaches of its human rights obligations under the EU-Israel Association Agreement. As the war drags into its twentieth month, the humanitarian toll has reached catastrophic levels, drawing growing alarm across European capitals.

According to a report from the EU’s diplomatic service, independent international assessments suggest Israel may have violated Article 2 of the agreement, which binds both parties to uphold human rights and democratic principles. The continued obstruction of aid, targeted assaults on civilians and hospitals, and the destruction of vital infrastructure were among the violations cited.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed that a formal review is underway, following a push from more than half of the Union’s member states. While the EU’s relationship with Israel is built on a framework of cooperation, the mounting death toll and collapse of Gaza’s humanitarian systems have forced a reckoning.

The report sharply criticises the deliberate restriction of food and medical aid, forced displacement, and the absence of accountability for attacks on civilians. It also highlights the surge in settler violence in the occupied West Bank, adding to the wider picture of systematic abuse faced by Palestinians.

Backed by unwavering U.S. support, Israel’s military campaign has killed over 185,000 Palestinians, the majority women and children. Thousands more remain missing beneath rubble or in mass graves. Amid this devastation, Gaza has been turned into a graveyard of international law, where famine, disease, and bombardment converge.

As the EU debates its next steps, Palestinians continue to suffer under siege, caught between the rubble of their homes and the indifference of global powers.
