The Prisoners Affairs Authority announced today, Monday, the martyrdom of Palestinian detainee Mohammed Rashid Said Al-Okka, aged 44, from Gaza, in Israeli occupation prisons.
In a statement, the authority confirmed that Al-Okka passed away in the Israeli Negev desert prison, as reported by the Civil Affairs Authority. His death brings the total number of martyrs among detainees in Israeli prisons since the start of the genocide war in Gaza to 51 detainees, marking the highest death toll in the history of the Palestinian prisoner movement since 1967.
The authority described the situation as "another face of the genocide war," aimed at executing further killings and assassinations of detainees. It warned that the death toll among prisoners is likely to rise as the occupation continues its systematic crimes, with thousands of detainees held under increasingly dire conditions.
Detainees in Israeli prisons are subjected to torture, starvation, assaults, medical neglect, sexual violence, and the imposition of harsh conditions that lead to serious and infectious diseases. The authority also pointed to the unprecedented policies of theft and deprivation that detainees endure.
The Prisoners Affairs Authority reiterated its call for the international human rights system to take decisive action against Israeli leaders, holding them accountable for the war crimes being committed. It called for sanctions to isolate the occupying state and restore the human rights system to its intended role.
The authority condemned the "terrifying state of paralysis" within the international community, noting the exceptional immunity granted to the occupying state by colonial powers, which has allowed Israel to evade accountability.
As of early December, more than 10,300 Palestinian detainees remain imprisoned by Israeli authorities, including 90 women, at least 345 children, and 3,428 administrative detainees. Meanwhile, hundreds of detainees from Gaza continue to be subjected to enforced disappearance in camps run by the Israeli occupation.
