UNRWA Prepares for Logistical Challenges Amid Gaza Ceasefire Agreement
The acting director of UNRWA in Gaza, Sam Rose, has expressed concern over the agency's ability to manage the anticipated return of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to Gaza City following the recently announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Rose emphasized the urgent need for fuel, spare parts, and essential supplies to operateospitals, powher plants, and water facilities.
Rose also highlighted a significant logistical hurdle, noting that 4,000 aid trucks loaded with UNRWA relief supplies have been stuck at a border crossing for months. He further warned of the danger posed by unexploded ordnance under the rubble of destroyed homes, which threatens the safety of civilians, particularly children.
The ceasefire agreement, reached through mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, is set to take effect on Sunday. However, concerns remain over the logistical and humanitarian challenges facing Gaza in the aftermath of the agreement.
