UN Special Rapporteur Balakrishnan Rajagopal has stated that every building in Gaza has been bombed at least once since October, calling for an immediate halt to Israel’s war and accountability for its crimes. He stressed the urgent need for shelter, food, and water, as Israeli restrictions continue to block essential humanitarian aid.
A World Bank report revealed that by May, 62% of Gaza’s residential buildings had been damaged or destroyed, leaving 1.3 million people homeless and 1.7 million displaced. Most have sought refuge in overcrowded UNRWA facilities, while ongoing Israeli bombardments continue to target civilian infrastructure.
With an average of 17 homes destroyed daily, entire neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. Deir al-Balah, Central Gaza, and Rafah have suffered the worst damage, as Israel’s relentless attacks push Gaza deeper into a humanitarian catastrophe.
