Gaza Bleeds into a Second Year of War as the World Watches in Silence

The war on Gaza has entered its second consecutive year, and with it, Israel’s relentless bombardment continues to erase lives, homes, and futures. Under the eyes of a watching world, the killing of women and children has become routine—numbers climbing while outrage fades.

Since Saturday morning, at least 44 more Palestinians have been killed in waves of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip. Homes, tents, farmland, and entire families have been targeted. Khan Younis and the Al-Mawasi area—supposedly designated as "safe zones"—have been struck repeatedly. In one tragic case, a drone attack on a displacement camp in Al-Mawasi killed a woman and wounded several civilians already forced from their homes.

Among the dead is Mohammed Al-Bahri, a young man struck while standing with civilians in Beit Lahia. Two farmers, simply tending to their land in Abasan al-Kabira, were shot dead. In Nuseirat refugee camp, three members of the Darwish family were killed when their home was bombed. One of them was just a child. A fourth family member later succumbed to his injuries.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health now reports a devastating toll: over 51,000 people killed since 7 October 2023. Nearly 117,000 have been wounded. In just the recent days, 1,783 Palestinians have been killed since the so-called ceasefire collapsed, and the renewed Israeli campaign began.

Despite international appeals and UN resolutions, Israel’s campaign shows no sign of abating. In Gaza City, artillery fire and drone strikes continue to pound neighbourhoods already reduced to rubble. Naval forces fire on coastal areas, and warplanes drop bombs in the night, lighting up the skies with flares that serve only to signal more devastation.

For the people of Gaza, every hour is a struggle for survival. Each name on the growing list of victims was a life full of dreams—dreams now buried under the ruins.
