Rafah Bombarded as Ceasefire Falters, Gaza Remains Under Siege

In the early hours, Rafah in southern Gaza faced renewed bombardment, following clashes that Israeli officials claim breached the truce. Northern areas, including Jabalia, were also reported under airstrikes as political figures within the occupying state called for the resumption of full-scale military operations. The prime minister reportedly cut short a cabinet session to consult with senior security officials on the rapidly evolving situation.

On the ground, Gaza authorities documented at least 47 violations of the ceasefire, including targeted shootings, drone operations, and the detention of civilians. Concrete and metal markers were installed along the so-called “yellow line,” intended by Israeli forces to define the limits of their withdrawal under the truce. Many Gazans, however, see these measures as further entrenchment of control and continued pressure on civilians, rather than a step toward stability.

The ceasefire, brokered through international mediation and following months of genocidal war, had aimed to include mutual withdrawals, the return of prisoners, and the release of Palestinians from detention. Yet, the ongoing bombardment and persistent violations reveal the fragility of the agreement and the precarious conditions for communities living near the frontlines. In Rafah and beyond, residents continue to navigate life under constant threat, where every day brings renewed uncertainty and the weight of destruction.
