The year 2024 brought immense suffering to Jerusalem and its Palestinian residents, as the Israeli occupation forces intensified their oppressive policies. These measures escalated following the genocidal war on Gaza, which began in October 2023.
Throughout the year, 32 Palestinians were killed by occupation forces, and more than 1,472 were detained, including 81 women and 170 children. In addition, the occupation courts sentenced 254 Palestinians from Jerusalem to administrative detention without charge or trial.
Al-Aqsa Mosque faced relentless violations, with 59,911 extremist settlers storming its courtyards—the highest number recorded since these provocations were legitimised by an occupation court in 2003. These settlers conducted provocative Talmudic rituals and effectively turned the mosque’s eastern courtyards into a synagogue for their daily prayers.
Since the genocidal war on Gaza began, Al-Aqsa Mosque has been subjected to severe restrictions, including the harassment of worshippers by occupation forces, the unbridled aggression of settlers, and unprecedented violations celebrated by extremist Temple groups.
By the end of 2024, 135 Palestinians in Jerusalem had been issued expulsion orders, including 85 banning them from Al-Aqsa Mosque, 21 from the city of Jerusalem, and others from the Old City and their own homes. Seven Palestinians were also placed under house arrest.
The Israeli occupation forces ramped up their demolition campaign in 2024, executing 357 demolitions in Jerusalem. Of these, 262 structures were destroyed using occupation bulldozers, while 95 Palestinian families were forced to demolish their own homes under duress and the threat of heavy fines.
